Overview

McCormick Taylor is seeking an experienced Highway Engineer to join our Columbia, SC office. The primary duties of the Highway Engineer are to serve in a technical and business development role in the engineering development of urban and rural highway/bridge projects. In this position, you will, design and manage transportation projects, assist with marketing and business development efforts, and help enhance and further expand our opportunities with the South Carolina DOT and municipal jurisdictions throughout South Carolina. Experience should include urban and rural highway design, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of design plans, geometric layout and CAD based plans.

Responsibilities

  • Providing roadway engineering support and project management for new and current transportation work within South Carolina. 
  • Develop and evaluate project plans, specifications, and design criteria for a variety of roadway, bridge or intersection projects
  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering project
  • Involved with the preparation of proposals, scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments
  • Coordination with utility companies to develop relocation plans is a plus
  • Working as a key team member and task manger alongside and mentoring junior design staff.
  • Actively participating or assisting in new business development by contributing to strategic planning, marketing, and business operations planning.
  • Active in professional societies

 

Qualifications

 

  • 5-15 plus years of experience in the design and management of highway/roadway, civil engineering and transportation projects for SCDOT, counties, and local municipalities
  • Familiar with civil design software such as Microstation and Geopak
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • Registration as a licensed South Carolina P.E.
  • Experience working on SCDOT  projects
  • Strong communications and technical writing skills
