  • Overview

    McCormick Taylor is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Baltimore, MD office. Position requires an established career in Structural Engineering specific to AASHTO design criteria and State Highway Administration project requirements. Qualified candidates should have a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to bridge design; geotechnical/foundation design, substructure design, superstructure design, and retaining and noise walls


    • Perform detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
    • Perform bridge and culvert inspections and write bridge inspection reports
    • Support completion of final submittal documents for design and/or rehabilitation projects
    • Progresses from simple to moderately complex projects under the supervision of a Project Manager


    • 4+ years of experience in the design and management of bridge projects for the State Highway Administration
    • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
    • EI Required - Maryland Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure preferred
    • Proficient with MicroStation
    • Experience in load rating and bridge rehabilitation
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software including a thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and State Highway Administration Bridge Design standards
    • Experience with MDOT clients (SHA, MdTA, and/or MTA) preferred.
    • Experience with PennDOT, PTC, VDOT, DelDot, DDOT clients desired. 
    • Bridge inspection experience desired with NHI (National Highway Institute)/NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards) and PennDOT CBSI (Certified Bridge Safety Inspector) certification.
    • Experience using PennDOT structural analysis programs and bridge design software including knowledge of PennDOT Bridge Design standards
    • Experience with 2D and 3D Refined Analysis Methods and 3D bridge modeling desired
