  • Overview

    McCormick Taylor, Inc., a progressive transportation engineering and environmental planning firm, has an immediate opening for an experienced transportation professional with a passion for communications and public involvement in our Harrisburg office. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of communications and/or public relations experience in the transportation industry.


    The position involves leading innovative communications, public outreach and community engagement projects and programs for public-sector clients, including state DOTs, transit agencies, regional planning entities and MPOs, and county and local governments. The candidate must have excellent writing skills conveying complex concepts in simple terms using new media products in the web environment including social media, mobile applications, infographics and collaborative technologies. Experience in event/meeting planning and strong interpersonal communications skills are a must.


    • Compose technical documents that present findings using clear language and creative graphic presentation.
    • Organize and facilitate meetings with officials, stakeholders and the public.
    • Play a key role in developing solutions to meet client needs and expectations.
    • Maintain high standards and quality of work while demonstrating innovation and creativity in developing solutions for client projects.
    • Management of a project, elements of a project, or have significant technical role under the direction of other technical staff members.


    • Bachelor’s degree in a transportation planning, engineering, or communications-related field
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Knowledge of transportation best practices, including public-private partnerships
    • Works well with others in a team environment
    • Organization and time management skills
    • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet and exceed deadlines
    • Experience in several of the following:
      • Client relations and consulting services
      • Scope development, budgeting and other Project Management duties
      • Writing and editing
      • Coordinating graphic design of handouts, brochures, and publications
      • Event planning, workshop and charrette design, and public meeting coordination
      • Facilitation and conflict resolution
      • Marketing and advertising
      • Social media marketing and tracking
      • Database management and design

     Optional but preferred qualifications:

    • Master's Degree in related field.
    • Marketing and business development experience, including tracking projects and writing proposals.
    • Registration as AICP, Professional Engineer, or RLA.
    • Active participation in at least one relevant professional organization.
