  • Overview

    McCormick Taylor, Inc. is currently seeking a highly talented, motivated and experienced Environmental Planner in our Baltimore, Maryland office. This position will require a strong understanding of NEPA regulations and requirements and land use planning expertise. The ideal candidate is an individual with strong work ethic, a desire to learn, ambitious, has the ability to work well with a team and is willing to take the lead on a variety of project assignments. A BS in environmental science, planning or related field is required. A master's degree is preferred, as is AICP or PMP.


    • Successfully manage environmental planning projects and land use studies including the analysis, coordination and development of environmental documentation and technical studies; land use planning and/or sustainability assessments.
    • Conduct all project management activities with a high level of attention to detail including: budgeting, scheduling, allocation of resources, client coordination, preparation of materials and quality control.
    • Application of NEPA technical experience (Natural/Cultural Resources) and land use planning skills, including development of technical approach to project tasks, technical guidance of project team members, preparation and editing of reports, analyses and various deliverables.
    • Conduct various business development activities, including marketing planning services, proposal preparation, presentations/interviews.
    • Ability to collaborate successfully with Clients and anticipate their needs.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.



    Desirable Technical Expertise:

    Environmental planning activities; preparation of environmental document and technical studies; land use analysis; sustainability assessments/plans; transit planning; comprehensive plans; strong understanding of GIS; public outreach


    • 7+ years of progressive experience in the field environmental/land use planning.
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral (writing sample required).
    • Exceptional report writing and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated proposal-writing skills and business development experience.
    • Well established relationships with MDOT MTA, MDOT SHA and/or MDOT MdTA are highly desired, along with the ability to generate more work.
    • Project schedule and budget accountability, client interface, interaction with other internal offices and staff development.
    • Solid understanding of GIS and spatial concepts.
    • Ability to think creatively and bring ideas and innovation to each project in an effort to streamline processes and workflows.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project and Excel
    • Must possess a valid Maryland driver's license to travel to various site locations and meetings
